Arantxa Zapico at Calton Hill, Edinburgh

I am a cryptography researcher at the Field Extension Institute. Previously, I worked at the Cryptography Research group at the Ethereum Foundation.

I obtained my Ph.D. from Pompeu Fabra University in October 2022, under the supervision of Carla Ràfols and Vanesa Daza. My dissertation, Algebraic Techniques for Universal Succinct Arguments, is available here.

I obtained my Licentiate in Mathematics (BSc+MSc equivalent) from the National (public and free) University of Córdoba, Argentina. I am a fundamentalist of the fact that education, at every level, must be accessible to all.

My first language is Spanish; I also speak English and Catalan, and am learning Mandarin.
I am based in Córdoba, Argentina.

Research

My research focuses on succinct arguments, from their security to the techniques that make them scale. I especially enjoy thinking about how to design them from algebraic tools. You can find all my papers on Google Scholar.

Teaching

So I go back to the beginning, to the title of this article, and I wonder where have I felt scientific independence. I have felt it in one room, in front of a blackboard on any random afternoon watching a small group of students and teachers discussing a problem. With the humility that imposes the weight of difficulty and the immense scientific tradition on the shoulders. But also with enthusiasm and especially with the feeling that science goes through that room, no matter what any official says, or any foreign eminence, or textbooks, the problem is there in front of our eyes and it depends on us to solve it. It was in that strange community of young and old that I saw independence shining at least a couple of times at this university.Sergio Dain, for Revista Deodoro
